- Pioneered the introduction of laryngeal mask airways in emergency care, especially for patients with burns, who as a consequence, had limited mouth opening. As a technique this was frowned upon by the inexperienced, but became national practice
- He pioneered the introduction of printed theatre notes – something unheard of at the time
- Magdi was also one of the first anaesthetists to introduce non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) routinely for post-operative pain
- Magdi moved when the Acci closed to the Birmingham General Hospital and in turn on the closure of the General to Selly Oak Hospital
- Magdi retired in 2009
- He was impressed and inspired by the team work on camaraderie at the old “Acci”
