- Introduced microvascular surgery including a series of limb and digital replantation
- Evolved the skin culture laboratory – the first in Europe, with Ann Blight
- Capability of a square centimetre of patient skin which could be grown to a square metre over 3-6 weeks
- Busy on-call running the burns unit with John Gowar and alternating on-call
- Published widely
- Lectured locally, nationally and internationally
- Introduced laser treatment for port wine stains
- Created the Bright Eyes charity for the provision of reconstructive surgery for war victims, predominantly children from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Lebanon. Operated on these patients both in their home countries but also brought them back to the UK for surgery – all funded by the charity
